Company/ Role Overview

We are seeking a confident and experienced scientist with a strong biophysics background to join a fast-growing drug discovery services company based on Milton Park in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.  The successful candidate will play a crucial role in all aspects of both our client-focused work and collaborative discovery projects, applying quantitative and biophysical approaches to advance our drug discovery programmes. 

Main Responsibilties

  • Design, plan, execute, lead and deliver internal and client research projects
  • Perform biophysics experiments to an exceptional standard
  • Data analysis, interpretation and presentation (including written reports and presentations) of experiment results
  • Thorough documentation of performed work in an electronic lab notebook
  • Following standard operating procedures and establish or review new SOPs when required
  • Providing feasibility assessments and scoping of projects in advance to aid the sales team
  • Provide subject matter expertise in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to drive internal process improvements and set best practice standards 
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
  • Work well within a team to optimise processes, mentor others and learn
  • Contribute ideas to technology development strategies and a culture of continual improvement


Qualifications and Experience

Essential:
  • Education to Ph.D level in biophysics, biochemistry, protein science or related fields; equivalent experience in scientific R&D
  • 1-3+ years of postdoctoral / industrial drug discovery experience
  • Hands-on experience and expertise in biophysics with an ability to apply quantitative biophysical methods in a drug discovery context
  • Hands-on experience with all aspects of SPR method development, data acquisition and analyses using Biacore software
  • Proficiency in using the Biacore 8K+ and T200 for fragments, small molecules, and biologics screening and characterization 
  • Proficiency in orthogonal biophysical characterisation techniques (e.g. nDSF, DLS, SEC/MALS, FIDA, GCI, MS) for molecular interactions 
  • Proven ability to disseminate research results e.g. in reports, presentations, posters
  • Experience handling large datasets including data QC and analysis
Desirable, but not essential: 
  • Experience in the use, programming and troubleshooting of robotic liquid handlers.
  • Experience with recombinant protein production techniques in a drug discovery or research context
  • Experience in executing assays using an automated platform including troubleshooting and method validation.
